Merida, Brave Inspired Wedding Details

The green hills of medieval Scotland, speckled with thistle and heather and a bride a groom windblown against a moody sky. Of course we’ve incorporated a few movie touches (‘tapestry’ favors, arrow hair pins and little honey cakes), but again it’s all about surprise and delight.

Star Wars Inspired Wedding Details

The great thing about geeky weddings is the couple gets to weave a side to themselves into their big day in a fun and meaningful way. I tend to err on the side of ‘surprise and delight’ instead of ‘overt and obvious’ when it comes to these nerdy details – so the following mood board is full of options inspired by the clean and sleek stylings of the Empire, as well as few well placed nods to the original trilogy.

Cinderella Inspired Wedding Details

Rather than go full Disney (although there are true to the animated film touches), looking at the origin and historical locale for this fairy tale brings in lots of unexpected details.

So we’re talking late 17th or 18th century France, that Versailles faux-rustic look with luxurious bits and bobs throughout. And the odd pumpkin.

Wedding Inspiration: Portrait of a Lady of the Hampden Family

This portrait from 1610 (artist unknown) shows a lady of wealth dressed in, what is assumed to be, a masque costume.

Wedding inspiration can come from anywhere. Details plucked from this portrait include tangerines, bold splashes of teal, embroidered textiles, leaves and dark wood.
